Ink Drawing

I've been a little out of sorts lately.

My husband and I are empty nesters for
the first time in 26 years.

Some days have been great and other days
I feel like a lost puppy.

Yesterday was a really good day.

Today I'm a lost puppy.

I think it's because I moved
my "office" into my
daughters old room.

The finality of the whole
thing has been getting to me.

One chapter is ending and a new one
is beginning for all of us.

I have to remind myself to give it some time.

After all, it's only been 17 days, 14 hours, and 32 seconds.

I'm going to move on to another subject now.

After all, art is the real focus of this blog.

I thought I'd share a drawing I made
using all sorts of pens and colored pencils.

I really like the way the flower, her eyes, and her lips turned out.

I'm still working on the mirror
and the tambourine, or should I say not
working on them.

That's why I don't have
a picture to show you yet.

I'm doing some organizing and deep cleaning
first, but promise to get back to them soon.

Quick Ink Drawing

I usually take several days
to work on a drawing.

This one took an hour or so.

I needed shift focus
for a bit from some of my other projects.

This was also a switch for
me because I worked in a  much more
free flowing and unbridled
manner than I normally work.

I'd call it a nice diversion, experiment and exercise.

Happy Weekend!

Sharpie Art Portrait

This is the beginning of my drawing.

I've got an idea to start, but
I don't have the whole thing planned out.

It starts to take on a path of it's own.

She took about 3 days to finish.

Pretty crazy I know, but this is the path it took.

Now, you're not going to believe what I did.

Why do I do things impulsively, like getting my
haircut on a whim or cutting up my artwork?

Yes, I "trimmed" it.

No, not my hair.

Not only that, but I trimmed too much,
and unlike my hair it won't grow back.

Grrrr.

Another lesson learned the hard way.

Note to self;
Keep your artwork away from the paper cutter.

Portrait Wedding Gift

What do you give for a wedding present
when there's no need for a toaster or a teapot?

Many couples these days are waiting to get married.

They're established in their homes and careers,
and have everything they need.

This was the dilemma I found myself in
when one of my dear relatives got married.

After bouncing ideas around in my mind,
I decided to draw a portrait of the two of them.

I know it was a risky gift, but we live on opposite
ends of the country.

They wouldn't feel obligated to hang
it if they didn't like it.

Of course, I really hoped they'd like it.

Here's the finished piece.

I wish I would've taken a picture
of the handmade card and envelope that
went with it. It made the whole package complete.

I did get a sweet thank you card in the mail recently.
They loved it, and it's hanging in their home.

Success!

An Apple A Day

This is another small Artist Trading Card.

It measures about 2" by 3".

I was practicing an art exercise that I made up
in order to decide what to draw.

I thought I'd take the first word that
came to mind and use it as my subject matter.

Apple was my word. It was close to lunchtime.

Here's what I came up with. . . .

Nehi Grape

I thought I'd post a picture of a piece
that I'd started a while ago and set aside.

I don't normally work that way.

I usually start something and see it to completion.

Keep in mind, I'm referring to my artwork
and not my laundry.

I thought maybe by seeing her here
I'd be inspired to finish her.

She has a long way to go.

I'll let you know if I set her back
to rest in a cozy file, or I attack her
with more pens and markers.

Pitt Pens on Bristol

Someone will see this and
know I didn't get much
housework done today.

No surprise, the housework
is still waiting for me.

Time to get started on that.

Hope your day is blessed!

Glamour Gal Art Piece

We've been working so much the
past several months, there hasn't been
much time for artwork.

I've really been missing my
artsy "therapy".

Enough was enough.
I had to do something creative!

This piece was inspired by the
thought of creating a 1920's glamour girl
and putting my own spin on her.

I love drawing female faces
(in case you haven't noticed).

I'm at the point where I have
to spend some time looking at
her to know if I'm going to
be tweaking her or not.

Hope your day is blessed!
